3D Printing in Robotics

Track: Agile Production

Date and Time: 13 Mar 2024 08:00-09:20

Organisers: Mathias Brandstötter, José Saenz

Main questions to be answered: What are opportunities for cross-European projects to improve the use of robots in advanced additive manufacturing?

Additional questions: What additional functionalities will robots acquire through advanced and robot-based additive manufacturing techniques?

Additional questions 2: How can European companies and research institutions collaborate to explore the potential applications of robotic 3D printing?

Workshop Description: Cutting-edge technologies have ushered in an era where the creation of functional components has become not just a possibility but a reality, and these components play pivotal roles in the ever-evolving landscape of robotics. Furthermore, it’s important to emphasize that the synergy between robotics and 3D printing extends in both directions, constituting a mutually beneficial partnership. In this workshop, we aim to convene experts spanning various realms of additive manufacturing and robotics, fostering discussions on recent and forthcoming advancements and applications while identifying existing gaps. Within this dynamic framework, we will divide into three different groups, each of which will address one of the guiding questions. Together, we will have lively discussions and compile our findings. We will then present our findings to the entire audience to ensure that the wealth of knowledge that emerges from these discussions is available to all participants. In addition, we will carefully document our collective knowledge, creating a valuable resource for future work.

Intended Outcome: Novel format (e.g. interactive matchmaking session for technologies and applications)

Approach: The workshop is divided into two parts: -> Three inspiring keynotes (40 minutes) -> Very interactive workshop (40 minutes with all speakers and workshop participants)

Contributors: confirmed: Mathias Brandstötter, Carinthia University of Applied Sciences, Austria (moderator) Francesc Cortes, Leitat Technological Center, Spain (speaker) Johannes Braumann, University for Arts and Design Linz, Austria (speaker) confirmed, but person not specified at the moment: tbd., WASP, Italy (speaker)
